Passion for Life

Easter 2010

A passion for sport, a passion for music, a passion for justice. What's YOUR passion? As Christians, we have been given the most amazing privilege - life, life to the full, life everlasting!

If you can't get passionate about this - being made alive in Christ when we were previously dead in our sin - then I'm not sure what will get your juices running.

We've spent good times praying for, preparing for and seeking to engage with this great opportunity - a nationally organised but locally run mission to take the offer of real life to our country.

But fundamental to the week of activities we have planned here at City (from 29th March- 4th April) is for us to pray for, prepare for and engage with friends, family and colleagues who have not yet received this good news.

A genuine passion for life requires a genuine passion for the lost. People matter so much more that programmes. It was a deep love for lost, helpless and hopeless people that lead to Jesus coming to earth. It was the love of Christ that compelled Paul onwards in his evangelism to the people of his day. It was the knowledge that unnumbered souls were dying and passing into the night that prompted the great missionary movements over the centuries.

It will be as we, today, recognise the desparate need and the aweful future that awaits those who are without hope because they are without God that we will lay aside all other passions in order to take this passion for life with urgency and effort to our city and nation.

I'm sure all of us would gladly offer directions to a driver who was trying to find his way around Beeston. We all know people who are in need of far more important directions - directions to Jesus, directions to heaven, directions to enable people to live - to live with passion, hope and purpose.

Can we really be passionate about life without being passionate for the lost?

Let's pray that the very spiritual lanscape of our local community, our city and our nation is altered following the Passion for Life initiative. That will be down to God's word and spirit working in power - working through you and I, passionate partners with Christ in gospel ministry.

For more information about what's going on keep an eye on our website and information boards at church and speak to your Growth Group leader.
